Majales has played important role in the history of Arabian Gulf region in general and Bahrain in particular, with their contributions to intellectual enlightenment and the opening of new knowledge horizons to the society. Their cultural diversity reflects the symbol of the educated Bahraini citizen who used this Majales for constructive dialogue. Those Majales that play key role in many religious, political and cultural matters and marked in history the stands of its owners, should be revived to highlight their vital role through the launching of the Bahraini Majales Website. It is a pioneer project in Bahrain and the Gulf region, to report with honesty and transparency ongoing events and happenings of Bahraini Majales to internet surfers from inside and outside Bahrain in both Arabic and English as part of the first phase, and in various languages in he coming phases.

The idea of e-network for Gulf Majales it is our core interest, to link Gulf nationals with each others to reinforce Gulf unity in the coming future to face contemporary challenges. The website looks for the achievements of several objectives, mainly: registering and documenting the role of Majales in enriching society and introducing to other societies the culture of our Majales that consider as our schools, through translating the contents of the websites to various international languages.

The website offers visual and audio coverage of the news and activities of Majales, to provide a complete picture to internet surfers, specialists and researcher on nations’ cultures about the cultural side of Bahrain and the Gulf region to reinforce connectivity between nations.

Majales were and still protect our inheritance of customs and traditions and pass it to generation after generation. From those Majales parliaments, shura councils and other councils such s the ones for the sports clubs were developed. As we are aware that Majales are the oldest form of gathering known to people as they are the center for learning and teaching and platform for competition between poets, writers, intellectuals, scientists and philosophers, as well as a forum for jurists and  fat was, research and mental creativities. Those Majales have improved the reputation of scientists and intellectuals and solved many conflicts and answered many knowledge-based and scientific questioned.  They corrected many wrong information and concepts and improved the cultural awareness of their regular visitors who passed what they learnt to others. Each of those Majales has its taste and culture, as there were Majales for writers, poets, story tellers, preachers, businessmen, ministers, rulers, judges and politicians. Each of those Majales deals with specific discussion and holds gathering in certain times. The name of such place vary from country to another as it is called Majles in Bahrain, while it names Diwaniah in Kuwait and other GCC countries. Cultural Salon is the name of Majles in Egypt that is originally a French word. Sudan names it a forum and the same name is commonly called for similar gatherings. The most important fact of Majales that they are gathering rich, poor, officials, employees, politicians, illiterates, highly educated and scientists without discriminations, as our Majales are our schools.

With the reality of our digital world, that brings us to how continents used to be million years ago, the world becomes like one village that in blink those in the east could know the news of the west. Differences between mankind are melting and together we could develop to achieve harmony between cultures.

The website depends on annual subscription fees of members, media campaigns within the websites and various services to subscribers for its financial resources. The website is officially registered with the Directorate of publications and Press at the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Kingdom of Bahrain under serial No. EGALM288. The website is obliged to the press law and freedom of expression policy of the Kingdom by avoiding violating freedom of expression or harming others in ways against laws or the constitution. Whatever will be posted in the website will be as a reference to the coming generations to know their history and rich biographies of their fathers and grandfathers to be link to their past, as the old say in Arabic: Those without past are without future. High proficiency is a phrase that is accompanying and couldn’t be separated from our work in posting and translating coverage of news, events and activities in various world languages to create an atmosphere of mutual dialogue ad exchange of cultures. The website is dedicated to covering meetings, conducting interviews, writing reports and documenting history by a media team of correspondents, photographers, producers, and directors that is obliged to the code of ethics that we designed for ourselves.

The history affirms to us through the words of His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister the importance of Majales by saying: “Bahraini Majales that spread in the country reflect in the best way the bonding of the society in our beloved Kingdom. As well as:  This is what we want in our weekly gathering at such Majales, as we want openness to do what we can to avoid negativities, and for Bahrain to remain a leading country in stability, growth, development and prosperity.”

HH the Prime Minister always recites part of a poetry that means:

Read the history to learn lessons as ignorant nation is deviated from what is right

The Website also include Women’s Majales to highlight the role of women in serving Bahraini community as woman is a partner of man in many of what he achieved, so, the Management of the website gives equal attention to Majales of women and men. Women are also associating in the operational affairs of the website as women haven’t been absent from political, social and culture activities and are walking beside men to achieve their milestones.

With a pioneer idea, “The Majles of Future Generation” that will be launched soon, aims to take care of those of the age group of 10 to 17 under the umbrella of one Majles to enhance their contemporary dialogue. This Majles discusses a mix of general topics and matters concerning youth with the aim of brining some matter within them, such as linking them with what is happening in their society, create awareness among them and promote good values, in addition to create a foundation of mutual respects between those with different views and promote youth to engage in objective discussions to be able to carry their national responsibility with efficiency and confidence.

This step that comes to bring back children to the Majales of their fathers and reinforce ties between youth, through meetings to shape up the personality of Bahraini youth and this initiative makes Bahrain  pioneer in the region and the Arab world in this regard and this adds up to it’s’ list of achievements.

With the development in the civil life and lifestyles, children became distance from Majales of their fathers and grandfathers, in which they stop visiting those Majales except for special occasions that gathered family members. That motivated us to think seriously to reattach youth with the Majales through this project.

e-Majles is a unique experience to add up to previous experiences. It represents a turning point to keep pace with development and current technology. This initiative was launched to reinforce the ties between youth and the Majles and revive its social role that was absent among many youth. We are sure that this type of Majales will be popular among youth for its easy connectivity and great response among Bahraini community to share youth concerns and matters.
